Venus by Joy Williams

When is comes to music I am completely open to any genre.  I listen to everything from pop to rock to country to classical to screamo to broadway tunes.  I could go on but I think you get the picture.  Up until a few weeks ago I honestly had no idea who Joy Williams even is.  Do you know who she is?  Did you know that she was a part of a four-time Grammy-winning folk-rock duo named The Civil Wars? I know I didn’t.  I didn’t even know who the The Civil Wars were.

Unfortunately the duo is no longer together but Joy Williams is releasing her first solo album ‘Venus’ on June 29.  Joy’s album shows how she has come to live her truth – the good, the bad, the petulant, the honorable – and in the end, shows all of us to live our own as well.  She has an extremely beautiful voice and every single song on this album is a pleasure to listen to.  You can hear the emotion in her voice as she sings and to me this album is very soothing to listen to.

Below you can find a video for one of the songs on her new album.  This song, ‘Woman (Oh Mama)’, is one of the more upbeat songs on her album so it’s fun to listen to.  Two of my favorite songs on the album though are ‘Welcome Home’ and ‘Till Forever’.  They are both softer, soothing songs to listen to.

Check Joy and her music out! She is definitely worth listening to!

I participated in the Joy Williams Venus album review program as a member of One2One Network.  I was provided an album to review but all opinions are my own.
